Self-employedCan I be self-employed and work as an employee at the same time?
Yes, this is called pluriactividad: you work under an employment contract and run your own business as a self-employed person (autónomo) alongside it. Social Security (Seguridad Social) contributions are paid on both, but new autónomos in this situation are entitled to a reduction in their monthly contribution (cuota) for the first three years. It can be chosen instead of the tarifa plana (the reduced flat rate for new autónomos); the two cannot be combined. We will tell you which works out better for you.
Self-employedWhat is the tarifa plana and who is entitled to it?
It is a reduced Social Security (Seguridad Social) contribution (cuota) for new self-employed workers (autónomos): about €89 a month in the first year (€80 plus the MEI contribution). If your income in the second year stays below the minimum wage (SMI), the reduction can be extended for another 12 months. You qualify if you have not been self-employed in the last 2 years (3 years if you have already had the tarifa plana before). In some regions of Spain (the Canary Islands, Madrid and others) there is also regional support, the “cuota cero”, which can cover your contribution in the first year. We will tell you how to apply for it.
Self-employedWhich expenses can I deduct?
Those directly related to your activity and backed by an invoice (factura) in your name: premises rent, equipment, software, advertising, phone and internet, your adviser's fees, and Social Security (Seguridad Social) contributions. There are restrictions on cars, phones and meals. We will go through what applies in your case at the consultation.
Self-employed · CompaniesHow do I switch to you from another adviser (asesoría)?
You sign an authorisation in our favour and we take care of everything else: we request your documents and filing history from your previous adviser and carry on managing your affairs without interruption. The easiest time to switch is at the start of a quarter (for companies, at the start of the year), but you can start at any time.
CompaniesHow long does it take to set up an SL?
Usually from 10 working days from signing at the notary until registration in the Mercantile Register (Registro Mercantil) and receipt of the definitive NIF (tax ID). With express registration (+€150), from 4 working days. The exact time depends on how busy the notary and the register are.
CompaniesDo I need share capital, and how much?
The minimum share capital for an SL (Spanish limited company) is currently €1. However, if it is below €3,000, the law requires 20% of profits to be set aside in a reserve until the reserve plus the capital reaches €3,000, and on liquidation the shareholders are liable for the company's debts up to the shortfall to €3,000. That is why most people choose €3,000 of capital. It can be paid into a bank account (the bank issues a certificate) or contributed in cash: in that case no bank certificate is needed, but the founders state the contribution in the incorporation documents and are jointly and severally liable for it actually having been made. We will advise which option suits your case best.
Companies · EmploymentHow do I work out what an employee will cost?
On average, the full cost of an employee to the company is the gross salary plus around 37%: on top come the employer's Social Security (Seguridad Social) contributions and other mandatory payments. For example, with a gross salary of €2,000 a month, the company's cost will be roughly €2,740. The exact amount depends on the type of contract and job category. We will work it out for your case.
Non-residentsDo I need to file a tax return if my flat is not rented out?
Yes. Even if the property stands empty or you use it yourself, a non-resident pays tax once a year on so-called deemed income (imputación de rentas) using modelo 210 (the non-resident income tax return). The amount is calculated from the property's cadastral value. We will file the return for you. Price: from €40.
Non-residentsCan I deduct expenses if I rent out my flat?
If you are resident in the EU or the European Economic Area, yes: you can deduct, for example, IBI (local property tax), utility bills, insurance, repairs and your adviser's fees. For residents of other countries, tax is charged on the full amount of rental income.
Non-residentsDo I have to pay IGIC on holiday lets?
Yes, in the Canary Islands holiday lets are subject to IGIC (the Canary Islands' equivalent of VAT): the tax must be included in the price of the stay and a return filed every quarter. We take care of this for you and remind you of the deadlines.
Transactions & documentsCan I get a digital certificate remotely?
Yes, we arrange your digital certificate (e-signature) remotely, so there is no need to come to the office. We will tell you which documents you will need in your case. Price: from €100.
Transactions & documentsWhat do I need to accept an inheritance in Spain?

And do not forget the 6-month deadline: if you cannot meet it, you can keep the tax relief by filing a preliminary application.
Transactions & documentsWho can claim the exemption for reinvesting in a new home?
